1942-2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edward (Ted) John Kibby on May 8th, 2024. Born in Exeter, England, he was predeceased by his loving mother Phyllis Kibby. Ted joined the Royal British Navy at the age of 18, serving 22 years.
He met the love of his life Jane (nee Dougherty) at a dance in Stockholm, Sweden where his ship was docked and where Jane was posted in the Canadian Foreign Civil Service.
After a whirlwind long distance romance, they moved to England where they were married in 1976.
Once Ted reached the end of his Navy career he took employment as a security guard for Atomic Energy in England.
Ted and Jane then moved to Canada where Ted began a similar position at Ontario Hydro, Darlington, until he retired after years of service.
Ted was a member of the Oshawa Navy Club for 34 years, serving the club in many positions such as President, 2nd Vice President and RCNA Director.
Ted always felt a duty to contribute to worthy causes and Ted very much enjoyed spending summers with Jane at their trailer near Brighton, Ontario.
His signature comfort attire included socks and sandals…he also had a wry sense of humor.
Ted held his feathered few friends in high regard and kept numerous feeders at home and at the trailer, enjoying endless hours of birdwatching with squirrels being his arch enemy.
Ted will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday May 25, 2024 from 1-3 at Armstrong Funeral Home (124 King Street East, Oshawa).
