“To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die” Thomas Campbell
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Edward James Keates. Survived by his loving wife Sheri (nee Reynolds) and his two beautiful children Casandra and Edward. Also by his father Bill Sr (predeceased by his mother Faith) and his brother Bill (Katherine), sister Kathleen Innanen (Kris) and brother in law Jason Reynolds. Also survived by his nieces and nephews Billy (Sarah), Chris (Kat), Rebekah & Holly, and his in-laws David and Marlyn Reynolds.
Eddie, as he was known to his friends, was born in Oshawa, ON. A die hard Habs fan which hopefully no one will hold against him. He loved to live life to the fullest as is remembered by so many high school friends who are still in his closest circle to this day. He met Sheri through his brother’s first wife Jackie who was a nurse with Sheri and thought they may hit it off, and she was right. From the moment they met, and Sheri gave him a pickle birthday card with the promise of a back massage, he was hooked. They were married shortly after in 2006. They enjoyed life in Aurora, but sought a quieter life in Burk’s Falls. Here is where they raised their two children which were the joy in Eddie’s life. No man could have been prouder of his children. Eddie enjoyed many years as a Master Tiler, with many people seeking him out to create his masterpieces of tile in their high-end cottages in the Muskokas. If you’ve visited Eddie’s home in Aurora or Burk’s Falls, you’ve also seen one of his other passions, his love of arcade games. No one has quite the collection like Ed & Sheri have. It was a thrill for anyone who visited their home, to get the “Give me a few minutes to turn everything on”, then walk into a world you would not believe existed in someone’s home. Eddie loved his Trans Ams, all 7 of them through the years.
Life will never be the same in for the Keates family as a little piece of each of them has been taken with Ed’s passing. So special was Ed that he went on Christmas Day so that we’d never forget him as we celebrate Christmas AND Ed together in the coming years. We also want to thank the many doctors and nurses that have helped Ed over the last 9 years. His life may have been short, but it was filled with such joy. We will miss you with all our hearts and you will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held on Sunday December 31st from 12 noon until the service time in the chapel at 1 pm at MARSHALL FUNERAL HOME, 10366 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill, ON. A family interment will be held.
If you’d like to help the family:
As you can imagine, the past 9 years that Ed has been battling colorectal cancer has not been easy for the family – emotionally or financially. Being an independent contractor, when Ed was unable to work because of his chemo and radiation treatments, he was not bringing in any money to support his family. Because of this, we have set up a GoFundMe campaign where donations will go to help the kids with their future. If you feel inclined to give, please visit:

Thank you for your kindness towards Ed, Sheri, Cassie and Eddie.
