Obituary of Ed Simpson
George Edward Simpson
1946 – 2024
George Edward (Ed) Simpson, 78, of Prince Albert Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2024.
Ed was born January 21,1946 to Wilbert and Helen Simpson in Saskatoon. His early years were spent in Reserve, Saskatchewan. At age six he was diagnosed with tuberculosis and spent the next three years in the children’s ward in the Sanitorium in Saskatoon. These years found him isolated from his family and unable to attend school, which made it a difficult and lonely time. At the age of nine, he returned home to his family. A year later the mill, where his father worked, burned down and the family moved to Saskatoon. At age 13, his father passed away and he went to live at St. Patrick’s orphanage in Prince Albert until he was 19. Here, he discovered he had an aptitude for working with his hands, which led him to a career in auto mechanics.
He started working at Anderson Motors in 1965 and grew to become an integral part of the team. Ed was a loyal employee who enjoyed his job and developed good friendships with customers and co-workers. He was a hard worker who was always willing to lend a hand wherever it was needed.
Ed was very proud of the energy efficient home that he built for his family near Christopher Lake. There, he had many happy years with his wife Avis, three children and his dog ‘Bijou’. The large acreage kept Ed busy chopping wood for the furnace and harvesting the garden. He enjoyed spending time with family and loved a good road trip. Ed looked back at this time as some of the best years of his life.
Upon his retirement after 50 years, he spent his leisure time reading, doing puzzles and playing cards at the Heritage center. He valued his independence right up to the end.
Ed is survived by his three children, Rachel (Mark), Trevor (Carmel) and Sylvia, his six grandchildren, Rhett, Liam, Jayda, Landon, Jadriel and Kali, his siblings, John (Karen), Margarete (Ron), Larry (Marianne), Ian, Robbie and Ella (Jurgen) and numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be forever loved and missed. A private family gathering was held in remembrance. Your best wishes and support is appreciated at this time. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in his name.
