Passed peacefully away at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home on December 11, 2024 at 11:55 pm, Edna Maud Hynes, of St. John’s, in her 94th year.
Predeceased by her beloved husband of 46 years and love of her life Aiden Hynes Sr.; parents: Harold and Mary (Steele) White; sisters and brothers-in-law: Eleanor and William Crane, of Texas, Carol and Ted Squires; darling grandson: Glenn Patrick Gardner.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her much loved daughter: Rosalie (White) Squires (Richard deceased), Walter; treasured granddaughters: Lesley Gardner, Hamilton, ON and Lori Schaeffer; precious great grandchildren: Owen and Tegan Schaeffer (South Carolina, U.S.); sisters: Margaret (Peggy) Smith (Ted deceased), Evelyn Broomfield (Edward deceased) of Kaladar, ON, Glenis Coady (Patrick deceased); brother: Kenneth White (Cheryl) of Texas, along with a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends in both Canada and the U.S.. Also leaving to mourn Aiden Hynes Jr. (Maureen), Barbara (Hynes) Hearn (Len), along with a large circle of extended Hynes family, Ferryland.
Edna was beautiful, kind hearted, and loving, with a heart of gold and a wonderful sense of humor. She was very fashion oriented and dressed with style and flair. She loved her family with all her heart and was always there for us.
Edna retired from a long and wonderful career at Ayre & Sons on Water Street. She held several positions over the years and one position was manager of the Cosmetics Department which she loved and added her own special touch to everything. She accepted the position of buyer along with co-worker and special friend Alice Churchill. Together they made many trips to Montreal on buying expeditions and managed to have lots of fun in their spare time.
Edna loved to travel, dance and party. She spent many summers visiting her sister Evelyn (Ed) over the years in Ontario. She and Aiden traveled to the U.S., England, Ontario and many parts of the U.S. and Canada. They loved to go camping in their motor home visiting many Newfoundland nooks & crannies. Aiden did the fishing and hunting and Edna did her scratch tickets. They never missed a dance, birthday, or anniversary party. They were the first on the dance floor and the last to leave. They loved the Brigus Blueberry Festival and had their own special spot reserved each year.
Special and heartfelt thank you to the staff, doctors, and nurses, at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home 3 North for their wonderful care, love and attention you gave our precious Edna during her stay. Huge thank you to Dr. Thomas Dunne and Dr. Sandi Ennis.
