Edith June Franklin (nee Larabee) was born July 1st, 1934 in Port William, Ontario to Elijah Larabee and
Edith Everett. She is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Bill Franklin, daughter, Jean, granddaughter, Ashley,
and son-in-law, Peter. She is also predeceased by many loved siblings, spouses, and in-law sibling and spouses.
Edith had 4 children, Jean (Bill), Sue (Peter), Andy (Nancy), and Sharon. She had 9 grandchildren, Chris (Michelle), Theresa (Genio), Jason (Stacey), Selina (Jason), Adam (Jenn), Devin (Shiyanne), Felicia (Justin), Ashley, Miranda and 13 great grandchildren, Jordan, Aubrey, Quinn, Jaylyn, Chase, Nathan, Emmalina, Azriel, Janoah, Jaron, Aleena, Cruz and Clara.
Edith loved life. She would light up a room by her smiles and stories. She had humour, strength and
determination. Her sharp wit was a true gift from God. She was larger than life. She didn’t let a hard time get her
down. No one knew what she would do next. To know her was to love her. Edith’s love is forever… a bond unbroken, a laugh never extinguished, a smile, that forever shines. She is in our hearts forever.
Edith loved spending time with her 11 siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews and many friends when she was younger and through her life. She was often found getting in to mischief with her sisters, and enjoying her time at parties.
As a young mom, she worked as a care worker in a retirement home, worked at the Butchart Gardens in Victoria, drove ambulance and later on ran a daycare. She loved helping people. Edith would welcome anyone in her home with her amazing one-of-a-kind homemade bread!
Edith really came into her own the last nine years of her life when she moved to Cranbrook to live with her daughter, Sue, and son-in-law, Peter. She came alive with a whole new appreciation for fashion, excitement and many new friendships.
Edith loved to spend her days at the Day-Break program in the Green Home, with her friends and staff. She loved her church family at Knox Presbyterian. She also enjoyed going to Common Threads, and making sure she was at as many events of her grandchildren and great grandchildren as possible. Edith would faithfully pray to God every night for her friends and family, and would let anyone know about her faith in God.
Edith went home to her heavenly father on July 17, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones after a short battle with cancer.
Thank you to Day-Break, Interior Health, her care workers, the Green Home, the Pines, and Dr. Van Rensburg. Her family was so thankful that Edith was loved and cared for so dearly by you in her last few years.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Edith Franklin’s name.
We would love to have the support of family and friends, or anyone whose life was touched by Edith Franklin. Edith’s favorite colour was red because she was born on Canada day. We would love if you could wear red or white to Edith’s celebration. If there is anything you want to say etc. there will be a time for people to share during the afternoon.
No funeral will be held, as she requested, but a celebration will be held in Cranbrook in her honour on Sunday, July 30th at 3pm, at 1639 Staple Crescent.
(Follow 14th Ave South past the Christ the Servant Parish Church, turn left after the Community Garden, and take your first right onto Staple Cres. It is at the top of the road.)
Edith’s Interment will be held in Victoria on Wednesday, August 2nd @ 1pm in Hatley Memorial Gardens, at 2050 Sooke Rd, Victoria BC, V9B 1W3 with a reception to follow at 1178 Lockley Rd. Victoria BC.
