VERBRUGGE: Earla Virginia (nee Carroll) – passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, August 12, 2024 at the St. Thomas -Elgin General Hospital. Virginia Verbrugge of Tillsonburg in her 91st year.
Beloved wife of the late Etienne «Chan» Verbrugge with whom she shared 64 years of marriage and who predeceased her October 12, 2018. Loving mother of Cheryl (Rick) Nevill, Judy (Randy) Marlatt, Debbie (Rick) Marlatt all of Vienna and Kathy (Allan) Sutherland of Tillsonburg. Sadly missed by her 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Survived by her brother Forrest (Evelyn) Carroll of North Carolina, sister Alice (Graham) Haggerty of London and brother-in-law Wayne (Gillian) McAlister of North Carolina and by many nieces and nephews she adored from Ontario and North Carolina. Remembered by special family and friends Dr. Darius Ho, Gary & Sandra Parker, Daniel & Debbie Verbrugge, Bonnie Nichols, Barb Bergeron, Lorretta & Bud Kneller and her many dear friends at the Congregation of Jehovah Witnesses.
Predeceased by her parents Roy & Gracie Mae (Gammon) Carroll, and sisters Doris (Joe) Wilson, Inez (Wallace) Kirks, Theo (Billy) Parker, Ethel McAlister and brother Curtis (Tenie) Carroll.
Etienne traveled to North Carolina from Ontario and met Virginia. They wrote love letters for a year before «Chan» drove back to North Carolina and married Virginia. They were young, hard workers and built a life together. Family was important. Virginia loved her flowers and birds and in the later years, watched them on the bird feeder with her daughters. She was a devoted Jehovah Witness and the time she spent at the Kingdom Hall, kept her strong, caring and kind.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Kingdom Hall, Tillsonburg on Monday, September 2, 2024 at 1:00pm. Interment will have taken place in Straffordville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Arthritis Society would be appreciated by the family. Personal condolences can be posted at www.francisfh.ca
