Obituary of Dwight Keith Helget
It is with broken hearts that the family of Dwight Keith Helget announce his sudden passing February 10,2023, at the age of 72 at his home in Kitchener Ontario.
Keith was born on September 12, 1950, in Fort William to Floyd and Lily Helget (nee Petrick) Growing up in Westfort, Keith played hockey and baseball going on the coach the Westfort Internationals for several years earning the respect of players and parents who gave him the Coach of the Year Award. He continued to proudly cheer them on as he noted their achievements over the years.
Going to Westgate High School, he was on the track team and played basketball developing lifelong friends that he looked forward to visiting on his annual trips to Thunder Bay.
After graduating from Lakehead University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, Keith went on to complete his accounting designation as a CMA CPA. He worked as a tax audit manager for the Ontario Ministry of Finance for over 30 years.
Keith was avid reader, subscribing to numerous news sites, regularly sending books and emailing articles to friends and family.
Sports was a big part of Keith’s life, proudly wearing his Green Bay Packers jacket and hat or wearing his cheesehead as he watched the games. The Utah Jazz and Minnesota Twins were also favourite teams and of course March Madness was never missed. He travelled extensively in his younger years to sports events and more recently to watch slow pitch and meet up with friends.
Survived by his sisters Dorothy Wright (Bill) and Diane Roberts, niece and nephews Jennifer (Dan), Steven (Bob), Jeremy (Dayna) and Justin (Kari), aunt and uncle Lahja and Peter Petrick, and many cousins’. He is preceded in death by his. parents Floyd and Lily Helget, brother Donald, niece Jodi Wright, as well as grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins in the Helget and Petrick families.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Grand River Hospital and Regency Condo Management.
There will be a private family service at a later date in Thunder Bay.
