Dwight Earl MacKay Obituary
Dwight passed away Monday, January 22, 2024 in the Grey Nuns Hospital at the age of 60 years, with his family by his side.
Born in Viking, Alberta on February 6, 1963, Dwight was the 4th child of Jack & Irene MacKay. He attended school in Irma, eventually earning his Journeyman Carpentry Certificate in 1989. Dwight married Jo-Anne Armitage on August 9, 1986 and they began a life together in Irma before moving closer to the Armitage farm to pursue a full-time career in farming.
Dwight devoted his life to his family and the farm. In his spare time, he was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed participating in hockey, fastball & golf.
He was a fun-loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. “Bunka Dewey”, as he was known to his grandsons, had the most infectious smile and unforgettable laugh.
Dwight is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jo-Anne; his three sons, Clark (Janeece) – Kipton, Kalix, Kysler; Jarvis (Andrea) – Oliver; Reece; his parents, Jack & Irene; siblings, Garnet (Sue), Mervin (Paralee), Kevin (Shelley), Shelley (Mark) Agrey, Trevor (Kristal), Diane (Jim) Schubada, Debbie (Michael) Soucy, Greg (Jackie); mother & father-in-law, Bill & Hjordis Armitage; sisters-in-law Mary Lee (Blake) Prior & Patricia (Vern) Armitage; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service to celebrate Dwight MacKay’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at 1:00 pm in the Irma School Auditorium.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation in memory of Dwight MacKay.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Grey Nuns Hospital Unit 42 staff for their exceptional care and compassion during this difficult time.
