Dwight David McIntosh, a man whose zest for life was as vast as the landscapes he once studied, left us on November 18, 2024, at the age of 68. Dwight was a beacon of love, kindness, and courage throughout his inspiring journey on this earth. His absence leaves a void in the hearts of many, but his legacy endures in the lives he touched.
Born to George and Anne McIntosh, who preceded him in death, Dwight grew from a curious child into an accomplished man who valued education and the pursuit of knowledge. He completed a program at Camrose Lutheran College, followed by a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Geology, which paved the way for a fulfilling career. Dwight dedicated many years to Syncrude in Fort McMurray, where he made significant contributions as a geologist and, ultimately, an Environmental Scientist. His work was not just a job but a testament to his commitment to understanding and preserving our planet.
Dwight’s life was enriched by his beloved family. His wife Suzanne (nee Taylor) was his partner in love and life’s adventures. He was a cherished stepfather to Erika Hagen, married to Martin Huard; and a doting grandfather to Nora and Simon, whose laughter was the sweetest music to his ears. His siblings, Randy (and wife Bonnie), Ron (and wife Marilyn), Brenda Lee Ziegler, Brock (and wife Donna), Maureen Gough (and partner Ernie Davis), Myles (and wife Jo Ann), and Katherine Cann (and husband Howard); along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all held a special place in his heart. Dwight also shared an unbreakable bond with his lifetime friend and cousin, Ken Kruper, Cheryl, and their family, along with countless friends and neighbors who treated him with the utmost respect.
Dwight’s passion for motor sports knew no bounds. His love for motorcycles led him on epic tours through the USA, Mexico, Thailand, and Africa with his brother Randy and with his exceptional group of friends, creating memories that would last several lifetimes. He raced in the world championships for jet boating, embodying the spirit of a true competitor. Yet, it was the simple moments with his grandchildren that brought him the greatest joy, reminding us that life’s most profound pleasures often come in the smallest packages.
Dwight’s interests were diverse. He was eloquent and articulate, a man who could engage in conversation with anyone. His ability to connect with people from all walks of life was a rare gift, one that he nurtured with genuine interest and empathy.
Let us remember Dwight McIntosh not only for what he accomplished but for who he was – a man who lived with his heart wide open, embracing every experience with enthusiasm and grace. In the tapestry of his life, each thread was woven with purpose and love, creating a masterpiece that will continue to inspire us all.
As we bid farewell to Dwight, let us carry forward the essence of his spirit. May we approach each day with the same boundless curiosity and passion that he did. May we cherish our loved ones as fiercely as he did. And may we tread lightly upon the earth, honoring his legacy as a steward of the environment.
Dwight’s story is a vivid reminder that life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. His journey encourages us to live fully, love deeply, and laugh often, just as he did. Though he has left our sight, the essence of Dwight McIntosh—a loving, kind, and courageous soul – will forever dance in the light of the memories he created and the lives he touched.
Let us celebrate Dwight, not with sorrow, but with the joy he would have wanted. Let us share stories, recount adventures, and honor the indelible mark he has left on our world. For in doing so, we ensure that Dwight’s luminous spirit never fades, but continues to guide us, like a bright star in the vast sky of humanity.
