Obituary
On Thursday Evening, August 24, 2023, attended by his children (Cheryl and Ed), Dr. Gordon Dennis Bergman passed on to Heaven to be with Christ, his wife Jennie and daughter Barbie. Determined to spend his final hours in the surroundings that he so loved; Gord passed in peace at his home in Milton.
Loving husband of 67 years, father of three, Cheryl (Robert), Barbie (predeceased) and Ed (Deborah), grandfather of seven, Chris, Jon (Catherine), Barbara (Grahame), Dan, Andrew (Taylor), Matthew (Brittany) and Michael, great-grandfather of two, Toby and Ben; Gord lived a full and blessed life of 90 years. Born on June 21, 1933, he was the eldest of three children to Henry and Linda Bergman and is survived by his brothers Ron and Les Bergman.
Throughout his life, he was dedicated to his faith in God and serving as an educator. Born and growing up on the family farm in Langham Saskatchewan, at the age of six he moved to British Columbia, then to Aurora Ontario, and then to Chippawa Ontario where on February 6, 1954 he married Jennie Lobinowich. Gord and Jennie started their family in Niagara Falls and in 1967 they moved to Brampton Ontario where in 1968 at the age of six, daughter Barbie passed away from a rare blood disorder.
In 1973, Gord, Jennie, Cheryl and Ed moved to Lansing, Michigan for one year while Gord studied and completed his PhD in Education at MSU. Upon returning to Brampton, Gord continued to serve at the Ministry of Education and became the Assistant Deputy Director of Special Education where Gord drafted and helped pushed through Parliament the passage of Bill 82 which meant that, for the first time in Ontario, all children with disabilities had access to publicly funded education. It was also in 1980 that Gord and Jennie finally settled in Milton.
During their retirement in 1991 the Lord called Gord and Jennie to go to Nairobi Kenya, where for five years they served as volunteers at Pan African Christian College. Upon their return from Africa, Gord became Principal of Mississauga Christian School and was an original founding board member of King’s Christian Collegiate.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 29, from 7 to 9 pm at McKersie& Early Funeral Home 114 Main St. E. Milton 905-878-4452. The funeral will be held in the chapel at McKersie& Early on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at 11 am. A Private Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Milton. Donations in memory, may be made to Christian Horizons Canada (christianhorizons.org/) .
