WOOD, Dr. Donald Stewart – Don passed away peacefully at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Saturday, January 13, 2024. Don was the beloved husband to Wylene. Don will be missed by his children, stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Survived by his brother Robert “Bob” Wood of Alberta, and predeceased by his mother Lily, and father Henry, stepmother Beatrice, twin brother Ron, and brother Esmond.
Don went to Kingston in 1947 and enlisted in the army. During his service he worked towards his medical degree at Queen’s University in Kingston. Don graduated from Queens Medicine in 1953. He continued his army career, served 2 years in Germany as a Paratrooper Captain in the medical field. Don was discharge from the Army in 1958, he then moved to Lindsay where he set-up practice as a family physician for 30 + years. Don was an avid horseman, who was one of the founding members of Kawartha Down’s Racetrack. He raced his horses there as well as, many other tracks in Ontario. Don enjoyed many sports, as well as a robust game of euchre.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
