It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Douglas Ross Williams on September 15, 2024, at the age of 78, in Hamilton, Ontario. Doug was born on March 28, 1946, in Truro, Nova Scotia where he began his life with his parents and five siblings until they relocated to Hamilton, Ontario permanently in 1953. Despite only having lived in Nova Scotia for the first eight years of his life, Doug’s deep love and connection to the Maritimes continued throughout his lifetime. He would often return yearly to visit with family, with his last visit being July of 2023 with his wife and daughter. Doug would also be known to seek out any East Coaster on vacations all around the world and spark up conversations with them.
Doug was a retiree and loyal employee of ArcelorMittal Dofasco for 38 years where he also made many lifelong friends. He was always passionate about cars and in his younger years was known to be a member of “the car of the month club”. This love of cars led him to become an avid Nascar fan and he enjoyed spending his Sunday afternoons watching the races, having attended a few as well over his lifetime. Doug also had a strong desire to travel and had a love for river cruises in particular, along with yearly vacations in Florida. Doug was also a faithful Hamilton Tiger Cats fan for over 50 years, having been a season ticket holder for the last 15 years.
Beloved husband and best friend to his wife Marilyn (née Eacott) of 55 years. Treasured father of Erin Williams and Dan Williams (Jana). Cherished grandfather of Emily, Cole, and Nelson. Dear brother of Wendy Lisson (John), Philip Williams (Louise), and brother-in-law of Joan and Murray Wilson, Sue Eacott, Earl Shipperbottom, and Carl Ambroise. Doug is also survived by his loving family in Nova Scotia, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Doug was preceded in death by his parents Colin and Marie Williams, mother and father-in-law Aileen and George Eacott, sisters Beverley Shipperbottom and Audrey Ambroise, brother Eugene Williams, sister-in-law Barbara Williams and brother-in-law Ross Eacott.
Special thank you to the critical care unit at Juravinski Hospital for their care and compassion throughout these last few days. A Celebration of Life will be held in Doug’s honour at a later date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Doug’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
