On a beautiful May 27th, on his own terms and in the arms of his loving wife Julie, Douglas Murray passed on to keep his date in heaven with the ultimate «Top Chef».
Doug grew up in London, Ontario working several years for A&P Grocery store and then became a high school teacher in Sarnia and later moved to Guelph where he retired from College Heights Vocational School in 1995 and relocated to Kitchener.
Doug had a passion for cooking that spilled over to 3 generations. He was the go to source for cookbooks, kitchen gadgets and condiments. His favourite places were his kitchen and garden: perfecting the perfect sauce or tending to his roses. He loved a good get together regaling everyone with stories of the past that would end with his booming laugh filling the room. Never let it be said that Doug Murray didn’t let the truth get between him and a good story.
He found purpose through his faith later in life and channelled his skills into helping friends and family with building projects; church events and charitable causes. He was devoted to the love of his life Julie and she brought out the best of him, encouraging him to become what he was: just a great guy who often said he had a great life.
Doug is predeceased by his daughter Laurie Jean Barry(2020) his granddaughter Sarah Murray (2007) and his first wife Marion Knowles (1999)
Survived by his loving wife Julie Murray, his children Mary Jayne (Stan), Dwayne (Shelley), Michael (Charmaine), Bill, Jon (Lane) and son in law Robert Barry; grandchildren Stacey, Aaron, Samantha, Will, Jesse, Tegan, little Mike, Jennifer, Kellie, Kaitlyn and great grandchildren Mikaela, Killian, Keiran, Owen, Lincoln, Finn, Elliot and Calvin
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be held at Kitchener East Presbyterian Church, 10 Zeller Drive, on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 11 a.m. Those unable to attend may view Doug’s service via the following live stream link: www.youtube.com/live/sXDD0KE-ZYY?feature=share
Reception to follow in the church hall. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Kitchener East Presbyterian Church or Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides would be appreciated by the family. Donation cards available at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 519-749-8467 or at the church on the day of the service.
