Obituary of Doug Hagen
With broken hearts we announce the passing of Douglas Brian Hagen, husband, father and grandfather (PAPA) of Sedgewick, Alberta on December 14, 2024 at the age of 82 years.
Doug was born in Hardisty on December 10, 1942 to Sander and Anne Hagen of Sedgewick. He was the fourth of seven children.
Doug was raised on the family farm eight miles north of Sedgewick. Although he left home at a young age to work on the oil rigs, the farmer in him never left. Doug started his oilfield career for Big Horn Drilling and then with many other oil companies for the next 53 plus years. The oilfield took him all over Alberta, Saskatchewan, the artic, BC and over to the Philippines for two years with Debbie and the kids.
In his younger years he took a break from the patch for about a year to acquire his nursing orderly license. From there he worked at the Edmonton General Hospital for a short time.
Doug met and married the love of his life Debbie on April 14, 1973. They became the parents to three children, Mark, Brandi and Jordan. Then the grandchildren came along, Mark’s (Hailey and Marissa Hagen), Brandi’s (Dawsyn and Presley Boutin). Doug could not see or love them enough.
Doug and Debbie did not leave home with the trailer with two or all of the grandkids. They enjoyed many adventures together from skiing, golfing and camping in the early years to riding their Harley motorcycles for many years.
Other than his family, Doug had a great passion for flying. He was so happy and proud to earn his pilot’s license. He loved every minute he was in the sky. Doug also loved all animals especially his cats whom I’m sure he is with now.
Doug made his home in Sedgewick for 50 years in which he enjoyed in his retirement until two years ago when he was unable to live at home and moved to the LTC first in Provost and then Tofield where he passed away.
Leaving to mourn Doug’s passing is his loving wife of almost 52 years, Debbie; his three children Mark (Corrine), Brandi and Jordan; four grandchildren Hailey, Marissa, Dawsyn and Presley; three sisters, five brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews and all who knew him.
There will be a celebration of life in the spring for family and friends.
We will love and miss you forever and always. There will never be another like you as you were one of a kind.
