It is with heavy hearts the family of Dorothy Margaret Thacker announces her passing on 31st August, 2024 in her 82nd year.
Beloved mother of Jason Thacker (Emma Thacker), Damos Thacker (Melinda Thacker), and Gillian Baxter (Paul Baxter). Proud Nan to Teija, Katie. Taryk & Theo (as well as many other children who adopted her as their own). Survived by her nieces and nephews, extended family, and many dearly loved friends.
Dorothy was very proud of her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She was born Dorothy Margaret Cooper in Prescot, Lancashire, in England, on 30th November 1942 and met her husband, Marcus, in Padgate, England, when training to become a teacher. They married in 1965, and three children followed. Jason (1967), Damos (1972) and Gillian (1974).
Dorothy and Marcus spent a couple of years in Canada in the late 60’s, where their first son, Jason, was born. After moving back to England she had a successful career in teaching, including taking on management roles and taking a special interest in advocating for specials needs as well as under-privileged children and those dealing with difficult circumstances at home
Following Marcus’ passing in 2012, Dorothy moved back to Canada (in 2017) to live with Damos, Melinda, and their two children Teija and Taryk.
She was very proud of her involvement in the community. She was an active member of the Ingersoll 50+ Senior’s Centre with activities including Zumba, Line Dancing, Total Body Workout, and Dominoes. She was also always willing to volunteer her time to help out in whatever capacity they needed her. Always thinking of others, Dorothy was selfless and giving, and was always ready with a smile and an uplifting outlook on life
The family wish to give a special thank you to all the staff and volunteers at Sakura House Hospice in Woodstock, where Dorothy spent her final couple of months. Their caring approach allowed her to spend her last few weeks with dignity and in a homely environment, which meant the world to her. For this reason, the family would ask that any donations be made to Sakura House in her memory
A service will be held at McBeath-Dynes funeral Home on 14th September at 11am, followed by a Celebration of Life at Ingersoll Senior’s Centre on Ingersoll Road from 12 pm to 3 pm,
