Dorothy «Dot» Thistle Obituary
It is with tremendous heartbreak we announce the unexpected but peaceful passing of our cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, Dorothy “Dot” Thistle, age 84 years.
Predeceased by her parents, Norman and Margaret Kane, her husband of 38 years, Eric Thistle, and her brother Gordon Kane.
Left with endless memories and love are her two sons: Les (Marjorie) and Jeff (Darleen); grandchildren: Ryan (Rebecca) and Erica (Alisha); precious great grandson Hudson; sisters: Christina Flemming and Sandra Kennedy; special friend Ralph Parsons and extended network of family and friends.
Family, socialization and independence were Dot’s motivations in life.
Dot loved the family life she lived. Her husband Eric was the great love of her life. From camping each summer to motorcycle rides to socializing with friends to spending a quiet night at home they were virtually inseparable.
Les and Jeff were Dot’s greatest accomplishments. She could not pass up an opportunity to tell you about how proud she was of them. She was a great mother to both and cherished every moment she spent with them.
Dot was enamoured with her grandchildren, Ryan and Erica, and her new great grandson son, Hudson. She could not stop from smiling whenever they were around.
Dot loved to socialize. Dot spent most of her working years at Sears in the infant and children’s departments. There was hardly a person who had a child or grandchild in the 1980’s through the mid 2000’s that did not meet Dot at Sears. She knew how to make everyone feel special and left a lasting impression on both customers and co-workers, some of which friendships still continued until she passed.
Dot had an extensive network of friends. She was well known in the community for her involvement with the Seniors Independence Group and Frosty Festival. She could not pass up a game of cards or rummoli. Dot loved her Wednesday afternoon and Thursday night cards as well as socializing with her friends at Tim’s.
Dot’s life was full of experiences. She had many memories of her cruises to the Mediterranean and Caribbean, yearly trips to see her sister Chris in California, group bus trips, trip to New York, visiting Florida and even rode the Hulk roller coaster as a senior.
Dot had endless talents such as knitting, crocheting, sewing (her favorite was hemming Jeff’s pants) and looking after her garden and plants. She had a talent for bringing back a plant from the brink of death.
Dot’s family and friends should take comfort in knowing she lived her life on her terms. She maintained her independence until the end, was comfortable that she had accomplished all that she could in life and was ready for what was waiting for her beyond this world.
We will cherish our memories forever.
