Dorothy May Beaubien, aka. Dot / Queen Bee passed away peacefully on November 18, 2023, with her children at her side at the Chatham Kent Health Alliance – Sydenham Campus, after living an incredible 100 years of life.
Dorothy was a formidable woman who left her family in British Columbia, as a war bride, to follow her husband to Chatham to live and raise four very well-behaved children who never gave her any trouble. “Oh sure”, she’d have said with a sly smile,
“No trouble at all.”
Dorothy was a shining example of love,
humour, compassion, kindness, forgiveness and sass.
She had a fabulous sense of humour and was reportedly a professional majorette. This might have been a fib, but it made for such a great story for her grandchildren.
Dorothy was incredibly resilient and positive about life, teaching her family to look on the “bright side” when adversity came because “tomorrow was another day”.
She loved animals, collected dolls, was up on world events and was fiercely proud of being Canadian.
She was a long-time member of the Sprucedale United Church, UCW and the quilting group. Dorothy was the rock, the matriarch, and the center of our family.
Beloved wife of the late Louis Beaubien (1983). Dear mother of the late Jacqueline «Jackie» (2023) (surviving spouse, Peter) Barlow, Barrie (Joanne) Beaubien, Susan (Dana) Nuttall and Ross Beaubien. Cherished grandmother of Derek Barlow, Nicole Barlow, Lindsay Beaubien, Megan (Patrick) Whalen, David (Lucy Fletcher) Nuttall and the late Ian Beaubien (2001). Great grandmother of Hudson Nuttall, Jackson Byng, Ailee Johnson and Briar Johnson. Predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Freda (nee Ward) Campbell, her brothers and sister-in-laws, Hughie (Marie) Campbell, Jerrold (Margaret) Campbell and Jack (Carole) Campbell. Dorothy will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews and friends.
Special thank you to the staff of CKHA – Chatham and Wallaceburg and the paramedics for their wonderful and compassionate care shown to Dorothy during her illness.
Donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation (34 Wellington St., East, Chatham, ON N7M 3N7) or Pet and Wildlife Rescue (P.A.W,R.), (405 Park Ave. East, Chatham, ON N7M 3W4). A private family Celebration of Dorothy’s life to be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Kendrick Funeral Home, 4 Victoria Avenue, Chatham.
