Dorothy was a caring mother, wife, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She passed away peacefully on May 29, 2023, in Saskatoon, SK.
Dorothy was born on March 31, 1948, in Yorkton, SK, to Albert and Freida Weinmaster. She was raised on a farm four miles southwest of Rhein, SK. She attended the one room Wallace School until grade 9, then was bused into Yorkton Composite High School where she graduated from grade 12. She was involved in the usual community, school, and social events that were popular at that time (4-H, Beef, Sewing, and Grain clubs). Dorothy took piano lessons from age 9 to 17 and taught piano lessons from age 16 onwards. Dorothy entered the last of the three-year nursing program offered in the Yorkton Hospital, graduating in 1969.
Dorothy married a local Rhein young man, Wayne Chepil in 1969, they had two children Robert and Jan. They started married life and careers in Edmonton, where Dorothy worked as a registered nurse, and eventually moved to Naicam in 1975 where they owned and operated the McLeod’s Store for eight years, while she also continued nursing at the Parkland Hospital/Extended Care in Melfort. In 1983, Dorothy and her children moved to Saskatoon. She then attended the University of Saskatchewan where she achieved her Bachelor of Commerce Degree in 1986, and began working at the Saskatoon Community Health Unit.
In 1989 Dorothy married Eric Cropper and moved back to Naicam with Jan (Rob stayed in Saskatoon with his future wife and completed his commercial pilot license). In Naicam, Dorothy was delighted to become a step-mom to Lisa, Dawn and Chad, and a farmer’s wife helping with harvesting, meals in the field, grain hauling, truck driving, swathing and combining. She also worked for the City of Melfort and from there she had many opportunities, as she always enjoyed a new challenge, and over the coming years she worked at the Northeast Crisis Centre, Cropper Motors, and Department of Social Services. After 29 years of living on the farm, Dorothy and Eric bought a home and moved into the town of Naicam in 2018. She loved her winters in Arizona with Eric; and when she was 59, they began winter travels to their park model home in Yuma, Arizona and eventually bought a home in Maricopa, Arizona where they enjoyed winters there for many years.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Eric Cropper; son Robert Wayne Chepil (Nicole Chepil); daughter Jan Michelle Peterson (Len Peterson), granddaughter Macey Peterson and grandson Adam Peterson; Chad Cropper; Lisa Cropper, granddaughter Kayla Cropper and grandson Jacob Emisch; Dawn Cropper, granddaughter Emma Brown; sister Edie Chornomydz and numerous other family members.
Dorothy is predeceased by her granddaughter Lauren Peterson, her parents, her sister Grace Walsh, and other family members.
She will be remembered for her heart and the love she shared with family and friends, she truly loved each of them. When her time came, she carried herself with strength, dignity and love. She will be missed dearly.
If you wish, donations can be made to the Naicam & District Senior Citizens Association.
