In loving memory of Doris Marion Beatty (nee Field), who passed away peacefully on November 13, 2023, just shy of her 95th birthday.
She was born at Mrs. Maddock’s birthing home in New Liskeard, on November 30, 1928, to Ivan Field and Lillian Bailey (both predeceased), fourth among a family of 9. Predeceased by siblings Marjorie Potter, Eva Rodgers, Elmer Field, Esther Cottrill, Gordon Field and Clarence Field. Survived by sisters Ruth Black and Lois Croisier.
Beloved wife of the late Earl Beatty (predeceased 1985). Loving and caring mother of Elizabeth Pahkala (Michael), Herb, Patricia Peddie (Lewie Sr., predeceased 2019), Bev Foley (Steve) and Audrey. Cherished grandmother to Paul Peddie (Monique), Lewie Peddie (Teagan), Kim Larkin, Lori Francisco (Nicholas), Sandra Larkin (Jeremy), Heather Knott (Jason), Stacy Foley, Roch Dugas (Leanne) and Aaron Dugas (Meg). Also survived by many great grandchildren. She was also a lifelong and best friend of Arvilla Winters since the age of 6.
Doris grew up on a small farm just outside of Earlton. On September 14, 1948, and at just 19 years old, she married Earl Beatty and they honeymooned at Niagara Falls. They spent their early married years travelling around various parts of central Ontario as Earl worked on construction, building many of today’s main highways from Toronto north. Doris spoke highly of living in and loving their trailers, and meeting many others who became lifelong friends.
Most of her life Doris lived in Kerns Township where she raised her family, and helped Earl on the farm – from the early days of dairy cattle and raising turkeys, to looking after beef cattle, pigs and chickens, and eventually just crops. While in Kerns she regularly attended the Milberta United Church and helped out annually at the ever-popular Turkey Dinner fundraiser. She also participated in the United Church Women’s (UCW) Group, the Milberta Women’s Institute and Kerns Kountry Klub.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren, forming special bonds with them especially around small ‘camp fires’ in the back yard, where lots of marshmallows were roasted. She also spent a number of years babysitting the children of numerous neighbours in Kerns Township. And anyone who knew Doris knew she loved playing euchre. Deemed a card shark by some, she played well into her 90’s and never missed a beat to ‘go alone’.
A number of years after Earl’s passing, Doris sold the family farm and moved into town (New Liskeard) where she lived on John Street, Market Street, and then at Northdale Manor. When her health declined, Extendicare Tri-Town became her home. Regardless of where she lived, it was always considered ‘Home’ and the family gathered there for birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays, or just for a visit.
The family extends a kind thank you to everyone who in some way touched Doris’s life over the years, and especially to the kind-hearted Staff at Extendicare Tri-Town for the loving and compassionate care given to Doris this past year. We are forever grateful.
Family and friends will be received at Buffam Leveille Funeral Home, 251 Shepherdson Road, New Liskeard Location, on November 25 from 1 pm to 3 pm, with a memorial service at 2 pm. The 2 pm service will be live-streamed. Go to buffamleveille.com for details.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations in Doris’s name may be made to the Temiskaming Foundation Food Forever Fund (temiskamingfoundation.ca – Box 1084, New Liskeard POJ 1PO) or to Northdale Manor (130 Lakeshore Road North, New Liskeard POJ 1PO) Online condolences accepted at www.buffamleveille.com. Cremation has taken place.
