Prentice, Doris Anne (nee Reid) – Doris passed away peacefully at the age of 92, on July 24, 2024, in Niagara Falls, Ontario, where her remarkable journey began on December 15, 1931, as the first child of Clayton and Mabel Reid.
Doris was a cherished wife to the late Chuck Prentice, and together they built a legacy of kindness and commitment. A matriarch in the truest sense, Doris was the loving mother of Dennis (Theresa), Nancy (late Ross), Chuckie (Georgia), Jeffrey (Pol), the late Rob, James (Lisa), and Scott (Janice). Her love multiplied with the arrival of each grandchild: Justin (Mandy), Jolene (Mike), Wendy (Tony), Matthew (Margaret), Michael (Michelle), Crystal (Adam), Jessica (Mike), Trendan, Sebastian, Thomas (Chelsea), Brayden, Peter, Rebecca (Rhys), Andrew (Meagan), Christian and Nathan. Doris’ joy continued to blossom with the arrival of her great-grandchildren Shawn (Molly), Sienna (Alex), Larissa, Nate, Noah, Keenan, Cole, Cordelia, Lillian, Jack, Evan and Emmersyn. The family is excited about the coming arrival of a great-great-grandchild, a new life to carry on Doris’ legacy.
In the embrace of her family, Doris was preceded in death by her brother Allen and her sisters Norma, Agnes, and Bonnie. Her memory will be kept alive by her brothers Clayton (Gloria), Don (Doreen), and David (June), along with her sister Mabel (Les).
Doris’ life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family, as an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her ability to nurture and care for those around her was a constant presence in the lives of those she touched. Doris was an awesome aunt to many nieces and nephews, sharing with them the same love and guidance she gave to her own children.
Doris had a passion for fishing, always ready for the next big catch. She crocheted and knitted beautiful pieces that became treasured keepsakes. Doris loved immersing herself in the pages of a good book. She enjoyed gardening. Doris found joy in being with friends and family, particularly where lots of singing and dancing took place. She knew the value of relaxation, never turning down the opportunity to share a beer or two in good company.
In the latter years of her life, Doris was blessed with the companionship and assistance of her nephew Richard Quinn, who was also a dedicated driver, shopper, and maintenance man. His support allowed Doris to maintain her independence and zest for life, and her family is very grateful.
Doris Anne Prentice’s legacy is a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived, a life filled with laughter, kindness, and an unending capacity to love. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 14th, 2024 at the Queenston Volunteer Fire Department, 5 Dumfries St., Queenston, ON L0S 1L0 from 1-5 pm.
