December 19, 1937 – September 7, 2023 Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children Dudley, Marilyn, and Sidney. Her grandson Mitchell, daughter in laws Kelly, and Maureen.
She was predeceased by her Uncle Metro (2001), Uncle Bill (1983), Grandma Mary Dushman (1971) & Paul Maksymyk (2020).
Mom was born at the Misericordia hospital in Winnipeg MB. As a young child mom was raised with her grandma Mary, Uncle Bill, & Uncle Metro on the family homestead in the Malonton area. It was there she got her education by attending Devonshire School & by taking correspondence. Being a talented seamstress as she was, her Uncle Bill entered mom in the 4-H club, mom came 1st place in many categories, mom went to great lengths to make sure her creations were perfect.
In 1958 mom started her career with Corrin & Sons as a seamstress. In the early 60’s mom worked hard on the farm. There was not a job that mom did not or could not do. She raised turkeys, chickens, geese & attended to the large herd of cattle. In the 70’s mom was asked to clean at various businesses which included Fraserwood Hotel, Riverton Hotel, Teulon Hotel, & many homes in the area. Mom particularly liked her summer jobs at Cameron’s Green House & also for Norquin & Molar Construction as a flag girl. Mom loved hard work & found employment at Northern Goose, her duties entailed the cleanliness of the delicatessen being shipped to China & even sewing the down filled quilts with the Northern Goose Logo. Mom worked as long as she could & put in a proud 17 half years with her plaques proudly displayed.
Family was important to mom, holiday feast was her specialty especially Xmas, mom would place hay under the table, have place settings for her grandma & uncles, & loved to dress in the red suit and be Santa Claus. Mom’s kitchen was HER place, and you knew who the Boss was. Mom’s Holubtsi were the BEST…
Gardening and nature go hand in hand, mom loved to garden. She loved to plant the seeds, watch them grow and nurture them to the healthiest plants. Mom had huge vegetable gardens & lots of crabapples that she would preserve for the winter. She would be picking, canning / freezing and making crabapple juice. Great job “Mom”!
She especially loved her clothes, lipstick & music…
