It is with broken hearts that we announce that Donna Marie (Boyd) MacNeil passed away on Sunday, February 5 at home in Creignish, Nova Scotia. Donna was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia on August 10, 1947 to the late Donald and Edna (Samson) Boyd. She leaves behind her devoted husband Jack, the love of her life, with whom she shared 53 wonderful years. She will be greatly missed by her sons Chris and Craig (Jill). She will be lovingly remembered by her five grandchildren, Joshua, Michael, Monica, Callum, and Daniella, the pride and joy of her life.
Donna is survived by her six siblings with whom she shared an incredible bond, Margaret Ellen, Sylvia, Angus (Marlene), Carol (Don), Almeda (Peter), and Donald Gerard. She is also survived by Jack’s family, Connie (Eric), Roddie (Paula), Bernice (Frankie), Tipton (Irena), Dan E. deceased (Liz), her cousins, and many nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Donna, and whom she was always interested in and proud of their accomplishments.
Donna possessed a joyful presence. She was giving, loving, welcoming, adventurous, and energetic. She loved her Creignish community and volunteered in parish activities, the Ladies Auxiliary, visiting the sick, and helping her neighbours. Donna was active on the committee for welcoming Syrian families to Inverness County, and she continued to visit and participate in their activities. She loved to share her passion for knitting, TaiChi, and yoga with her women’s groups. Donna enjoyed gardening and loved hiking the Ceilidh trails. Her daily e-mails kept us up to date on news events, the best book to read, the newest recipe to try, the next ceilidh we should attend, the photos of the grandchildren, and her answers to Wordle. She challenged you to a great game of cards, whether it be cribbage, auction or pass the Ace. She loved entertaining with Jack, and each meal was a feast. She was our family anchor for gatherings, lobster boils, and reunions which were overflowing with laughter and love. Donna loved to travel with Jack, and they created many cherished memories and looked forward to more adventures. Donna filled our lives with joy, love and kindness, and she will live on in our hearts forever. We all loved her beyond measure.
Donna embraced the L’Arche community. If so desired, donations can be made in Donna’s memory to L’Arche Cape Breton.
