Obituary of Don Durkee
Durkee, Donald Stanley of Aylmer passed away at The Manor Village London on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 in his 89th year. Beloved husband of Judy (Albrant) Durkee. Loving father of Pete Durkee(Kim) of Aylmer and Mary Ellen Robb (Terry) of Hamilton. He will be missed by several nieces. Predeceased by his sister Hazel McConnell. Born in St. Thomas, Ontario on August 21, 1934, son of the late Stanley and Anne (McGugan) Durkee. Don graduated University of Western Ontario with an Honours Business degree in 1957. Together with Judy, they owned and operated Durkee’s Ltd from 1960-2003; a community favourite clothing store. He had a deep passion for his community. His involvement included: past member of the Aylmer Kinsmen Club, Past President of the Aylmer Retail Merchants, a past member of the Aylmer B.I.A. and a member of St. Paul’s United Church. Don was a talented musician and a member of the Bill Sherry Big Band in St. Thomas since 1978 and active within the music community of Aylmer all his life. Don enjoyed chatting on the street and talking about current events. He was a talented photographer and had an eye for local architecture, nature and attractions.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at 11:00am with visitation from 10-11:00am. Interment, Aylmer Cemetery. Donations to the Aylmer Area Community Foundation would be appreciated. Share memories or condolences at kebbelfuneralhome.com
