Passed away peacefully in his sleep, on Friday September 22, 2023 in his 90th year.
Don was born on April 10, 1934 in Newton, Perth County, a son of the late Alexander and Mary (Magwood) Holmes.
Loving father of Kevin (Cheryl), Jennifer Albrecht (Paul), Andrew (Loveth) Holmes and Mary (Mark) Holmes. Proud grandfather of Michael Albrecht, Amy Stemmler (Josh), Alexander and Mckenzie Holmes, Felicia and Helena Holmes. Special great granddad to Georgia and Ronan Stemmler.
Predeceased by his brothers Robert, Ralph and Bruce and nephew Brian Holmes.
Throughout his life, Don loved the sport of hockey and for many years in the 50’s and 60’s he would watch his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs in person and remembered well the Stanley Cup wins. Baseball also played a large part in his life as a coach and umpire and then of course as an ardent fan of the Toronto Blue Jays.
He was a proud member of the Ontario Genealogical Society and turned his passion for ancestry into a full- time retirement career.
The family would like to thank the staff at Derbecker’s Heritage House in St Jacobs for the wonderful care provided to our father in his last year.
Cremation has taken place and interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Milverton.
