It is with great sadness we announce the
passing of Donald Joseph Belliveau, age
91, of Amherst, NS formerly of Joggins, NS. Don passed away
suddenly on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at White
Birches Retirement Residence where he proudly resided for the past
four years.
Born in Joggins, he was the son of the
late James and Marion (Melanson) Belliveau. Besides his parents, he
was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Freda
(McClary).
Don’s career began at Enamel
& Heating (Aircraft Division) but he went on to have many
business ventures over the years. He owned and operated the Joggins
Irving garage and worked within the forestry and trucking industries,
although his true passion was fishing lobster and scallops on the Bay
of Fundy. He was the captain of many fishing vessels throughout his
life, having bought his first boat at the age of 15.
Don loved being on the water and in his
later years took pleasure in spending time on his sailboats. When Don
wasn’t on the water he enjoyed listening and dancing to classic
country music.
Don will be sadly missed by his
daughters, Jackie Cooke of Amherst, Patti Leighton (Rick) of
Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Ryan Cooke (Victoria) of Eastern
Passage, NS, Kayla Leighton (Dan) of Fredericton, NB, and Taylor
Leighton (Katlyn) of Fredericton, NB; and great-grandchildren Emmett,
Gracie, Liam and Emilia.
The family would like to extend
heartfelt appreciation to the amazing staff of White Birches
Retirement Residence for providing such a wonderful and caring
home.
Arrangements are under the care and
supervision of the Jones Family Funeral
Centre, 70 Church Street, Amherst (902-667-8777) where
visitation will take place Saturday, January 28,
2023 from 1 PM until 2
PM followed immediately by a Funeral Liturgy of the Word
at 2 PM with Father Gregory Agyeman
presiding. A public graveside service will take place in the
St. Thomas Aquinas cemetery in Joggins on Tuesday, September 26, 2023
at 1:00pm.
If desired, donations may be
made in Don’s memory to the charity of your
choice.
