It is with deep sorrow that we announce
the passing of Donald (Donnie) Arthur
Coates. Donald passed away Wednesday, June 19th, 2024,
peacefully at home in Fenwick.
Son of Arthur and Jesse Coates, Donald
was born November 29, 1947 in Amherst and grew up in Brookdale along
with his brothers Carson, Walter, Sterling and sister
Dorothy.
After meeting the love of his life,
Gail, he married and started his own family having two sons, Darren
and Dale. Living in Fenwick for many decades, he made many friends in
the community and never hesitated to help anyone in
need.
Donald was a very hard worker and
instilled that work ethic in his sons and anyone who worked with him.
«It’s gotta get done so just do it» was heard often, either
at work or home mowing lawns or cutting the winters
wood.
Donald was an avid hunter and fisher
until his health started to deteriorate, but, he instilled a great
respect for the outdoors in both his sons through hunting and time
spent at the hunting camp in Collingwood along with time spent along
side riverbanks casting a line.
His love of the outdoors was second only
to spending time with family. If not working he could be found
traveling with Gail and the boys visiting other family members or at
the cottage in Waltons Beach along with many other family members also
having cottages there.
Donald was predeceased by his beloved
wife Alice Gail Coates (nee Fury); father, Arthur Coates; brother,
Carson Coates; step grandson, Travis Killen and step great grandson,
baby Ace Gabriel-Killen.
He will be sadly missed by his mother
Jesse, as well as sons Darren (Tammy) and Dale; his grandchildren,
Allison, Ashley, Dominick, Justin and Alexis; great grandchildren,
Paisley, Gabriella, and Tucker; brothers, Walter (Debbie), Sterling
(Marcia); sister, Dorothy; his sister in law Sharon and many
many brothers and sisters in law.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the
Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church
St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). A time of visitation will
be held from the funeral home on Monday, June 24, 2024 from 2-4 and
6-8 pm. A funeral service will take place at the funeral
home on Tuesday, June 25, at 2 pm with interment to follow in Point de
Bute, NB.
Donations in Donnie’s memory may be
given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
