It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dolores Mary Ida Brisson in Windsor, Ontario on Saturday July 6, 2024, at the age of 89.
Dolores is predeceased by her husband of over 60 years, Dennis, with whom she was blessed with five children, Louis (Christine), Natalie Renaud (Don), Monique Aversa (Piero), Judge (Angie), and Michael (Alison). She enjoyed the love of 19 grandchildren: Rebecca (Chris), Matthew, Joe (Kristen), Claire (Grant), Greg, Gisèle, Marc (Vanessa), Matt (Victoria), John, Vanessa (Rafae), Andrew (Nicolette), Veronica (Austin), Alexander (Martina), Isabel, Adrien, Nancy, Noël, Natalie, James, and great grandchildren: Kareem, Giorgio, and Amira.
Dolores grew up on a farm in River Canard, Ontario, the youngest of five children. She was the last surviving member of her family’s generation. Graduating from St. Mary’s Academy in the 1950s, she chose a pathway into education that brought her to Ottawa to earn her teaching degree. Early on she worked in a traditional rural schoolhouse teaching many subjects, often in her native French language. After marrying Dennis in 1961, she moved to New York City where she continued to teach in the public school system. Soon after, they had their first of five children and eventually returned home to Windsor/Es settling in the family home on Victoria Avenue where she lived up to her last days.
Those who knew Dolores best understood that she had a remarkable ability to remember the precise details of events not only of her own life, but of just about anyone whom she met along the way. This encyclopedic knowledge was a great benefit to family and friends whose memories lacked the vivid clarity and colour that helped to paint a sort of living historical record which she would share enthusiastically. Moreover, regular communications with lifelong friends both near and far always kept her up to date and formed a crucial part of her daily routine. You could rest assured that a phone call or a handwritten card (with exceptional penmanship) would greet you on your birthday, anniversary or other life milestone. It should come as no surprise that a steady diet of biographies satisfied her cravings for a good read.
Her interest, concern and love for others was certainly a product of her absolute devotion to her faith. Among the human virtues described in the Catechism of the Catholic Church is something called the Fruits of the Holy Spirit. These are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. No better words can describe Dolores as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grand-mother, and friend. God rest her soul.
Visitation will take place at Families First Funeral Home in South Windsor on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 from 3 – 5 and 7 – 9 pm. Visiting will continue on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at St. Joseph Church in River Canard from 10:30 am until the time of the funeral mass at 11:00 am. Burial to follow at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery (1598 Drouillard Rd. Windsor).
