In Celebration of
Dianne Piotrowski
January 23, 1925 –
September 8, 2024
Peacefully, on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Toronto, 99. Beloved wife of the late Edward. Cherished mother of Glenn (Gail Daymond) (please fix spelling) and Deborah (Gerry McLeod). Adored grandma of Katie, Dia, Andrew, Amy, Michael, Kiri and William, and very special great grandmother to seven great grandchildren. Sister to the late Walter Boyko and the late Joan Werner.
Born in Poland, Dianne emigrated to Canada with her family by boat in 1938. They settled in Manitoba, where Dianne learned to drive sitting on a tractor on the family farm. Eventually they made their way to Toronto. Dianne first worked as a dress designer on Spadina. Later she and her sister, Joan opened a dress store on Roncesvalles Ave.
Dianne met the deep love of her life, Ed and they built a wonderful life together. They established a very successful Engineering Consultancy practice in North Bay, where they settled, and where Dianne lived until December 2023. Dianne had a medical set back, which prompted her move to Delmanor in Toronto. She was very well cared for there and she quickly developed some lovely and meaningful relationships with new friends.
Dianne loved gardening and took great pride in her wonderful property on the lake. She spent as much time as she could out of doors, communing with nature. She was a marvellous cook, of both Polish and Canadian food. Our family get togethers were legendary. She played tennis, and she golfed 9 holes every day until she was 96, and walked the course well into her 80’s. She was sharp and quick witted right to the end, and only slowed down physically very recently. She took great pride in her appearance and looked more youthful than most at 99 years and 7 months.
Dianne was a power house of a woman. She made a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her. While stoically determined, she was a fiercely loyal friend and passionate protector of her much cherished family. She had enormous love for her children, and adored each grandchild and great grandchild. She was so happy to see photos and had an insatiable appetite to hear their latest news. No one could have asked for a better role model in life.
We thank the staff at both Delmanor and at St Joseph’s Health Centre for their care and compassion in Dianne’s final stage.
