Mitchell, Dianna Lynn – It is with great sadness and heartbreak we announce the passing of Dianna Lynn Mitchell on May 22, 2024, at the Halifax Infirmary. Born on August 4, 2005, she is the beloved daughter of Andrew and Julie Mitchell, sister and best friend to Addison Mitchell of Oxford, NS. Dianna embraced life and all it had to offer. She graduated with Honours with Distinction from OREC in June 2023 and had received the Lieutenant Governor’s Education Medal the previous year. Only a few weeks ago she had just completed her first year in the Psychology program in a Bachelor of Arts at SMU. Dianna was as much at home showing beef cattle in the ring as a member of the Linden 4-H club as she was on the court with the Oxford Golden Bears Sr. Girls basketball team. No challenge was too daunting and every new opportunity was met with enthusiasm, be it on stage as Lucy in Charlie Brown with the Cumberland Performing Arts or as goalkeeper with the Golden Bears Senior Soccer team. A dedicated athlete and team player, at junior and senior levels with the Oxford Golden Bears basketball, soccer, softball, and track and field teams. Throughout her life Dianna marched to the beat of her own drum, a non conformist, in a positive way. Full of surprises. She was determined and took great pride in her accomplishments, was never one to settle, she would do better next time. Some have said she was an old soul deep down, pausing to watch the sunsets, crocheting a special something for a friend, a trip to the bookstore was as much an adventure as a hike in the woods. She cherished summers camping with her family and times with friends. Her smile would light up a room and put others at ease, even if she was not. She was gracious, charismatic and to those close to her, extraordinary. She was Dianna. Dianna was predeceased by her maternal grandmother, Diane Mattinson; paternal grandparents, Rita and Vernon Mitchell. She leaves behind to mourn her parents, Andrew and Julie Mitchell; her sister, Addison; her maternal grandfather, Carmen «Papa Carm» Mattinson; uncle, Jody Mattinson; aunts, Meredith Mitchell, Alison Mitchell Draper and uncle, Rick Draper; boyfriend, Logan Clark, as well as extended family members and many friends. Visitation is from 1-9 pm Thursday, May 30 at MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Oxford. A service to celebrate Dianna’s life will be held at 2 pm on Friday, May 31 at Oxford Baptist Church. Following the service, Dianna will be laid to rest at Birch Grove Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 74 Jackson Street, Oxford. Donations can be made to the Oxford Food Bank or Cumberland County 4-H. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the EHS paramedics and the many NSHA Doctors, nurses and staff for their expertise, kindness and compassion over the past days. Dianna leaves a legacy of kindness, compassion and exuberant love for life as inspiration to all whose lives she touched. Through the gift of organ donation, Dianna has restored life’s promise to other families. Let her light continue to shine forever in our hearts.
