Diane May Kerr – 80, Great Village.
They say some people are born not of this world, but of the
next, and to all those who knew Diane, would agree that she was one of
those; an angel among us. They would also note that she was a
remarkable storyteller, who loved to share her wisdom with everyone.
So, it’s befitting that her life be told in a
story.
Born Diane May Robinson in Lachine, Quebec, to Bruce and
Isobel, Diane was a child full of wonder and curiosity for both this
world and the next. She was always on a quest for the truth and
mystical realities of life and found that when she became a
Baha’i in 1970. After many years of friendship,
Diane married her best friend and kindred spirit, Russell, in June of
1975. The two forged a bond of love and service for humanity
as Bahá’is, who would make their home one which
welcomed everyone and was free of judgement. Being a
Bahá’i, with a philosophy that the world is one
and embracing people in their authentic light, shaped how she was as a
mother to her two beautiful daughters, Jenny, and
Amber.
Diane’s sense of curiosity and wonder for both the
physical and spiritual world carried throughout her life. Whether it
was travelling across the World to be a champion for women’s
or indigenous causes, pioneering to aid the
Bahá’i faith, or learning about the latest ways
to improve health and well-being, she took it all in. Diane was an
avid reader, trying to get her hands on every book and topic she
could. Her quest for lifelong learning led her to earn a
master’s degree in Transformational Psychology at the age of
70. Diane experienced every aspect of life that she could with many
passion projects in writing, art, storytelling, and music. A
Psychotherapist by day, Diane was also known by many friends as a
spiritual mother and guide who took the time for others, despite the
many health challenges she faced and guided them through their own
trials with keen insight and deep wisdom. Diane embraced everyone
where they were in life in a non-critical
manner.
Diane peacefully passed away on March 19, 2024 in Nova
Scotia, after a brief battle with illness. Knowing Diane, she is
likely enjoying wonderful tea and conversations in the Abhá
Kingdom with all those friends who have passed before her. Diane Kerr
is preceded in death by her mother, Isobel Robinson; father, Bruce
Robinson; brother, Tony Robinson. She is succeeded in death by her
husband, Russell Kerr; daughters, Jenny (Ed) and Amber Kerr;
grandchildren, David, Nicholas, and Alba.
The family would like to thank the volunteer fire brigade of
Great Village, EHS staff, nurses and doctors at the Colchester East
Hants Health Centre Emergency Room and ICU for their support and care.
They were truly amazing during all of this. A private memorial will be
held in her honour on April 6, 2024. Her body will be interred at a
later date. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to
be made to organizations that Diane would have supported; those can
include your local animal charity, indigenous and social justice
causes, or the Bahá’i fund
(Bahá’is only).
