With regret, the family of Diane Margaret Durand announces her sudden passing after an unexpected and brief struggle with cancer. Born in Corvallis, Oregon to Charles and Barbara (Abel) Hampton, she was married and later divorced to Dennis Durand. They had three children Lucas (wife Jessica, son Peter), Matthew (wife Hyejin Lee, daughter Yena) and Evan Durand.
Diane loved dearly her family, her children, and her grandchildren. She was dubbed “Gran” when her first grandchild Peter was born, and the nickname stuck for the rest of her life. Another life-long love of hers was in creating visual art in sketches and paintings. She graduated from the Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 1993 and continued to produce her art until her passing. She loved also her home in the Vancouver neighborhood of West Point Grey, where she spent countless hours tending her yard as a garden and another extension of her interest in visual art. In the end however, what mainly mattered to her was that she had “her boys” with her to keep her company. Her final wishes were to have her ashes dispersed over the Pacific Rim Forest. Following her cremation, Diane will reside forever in the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. Those who wish it will find her spirit there under the trees.
Diane Durand is survived by her siblings Charles (wife Joni) Hampton, Bruce (wife Wendy) Hampton, Laurie (husband David) Bradley, Nancy Sharer and many nieces and nephews.
