Diane Joan Bennett Cook – 75, Windsor, formerly of
Truro. It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of
Diane Joan Bennett Cook on July 18, 2024, our cherished mother,
grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Diane will be greatly
missed and never forgotten.
Born in Ottawa, Diane was the first child of Donald and Iris
Bennett (nee Fitzpatrick). Diane was predeceased by her parents, Don
and Iris, as well as her youngest brother, David Bennett. She is
survived by her three children, Robyn (Robert Woodman), Kathryn (John
MacKinnon) and Adam (Lisa Bruce) as well as her grandchildren, Emily
Woodman (Reuben Hebb), Ava Woodman, Riley MacKinnon, Liam MacKinnon,
Connell MacKinnon, Rebecca Cook, Lily Cook, Josh Cook; twin great
granddaughters, Collins and Campbell Hebb; brother, Douglas Bennett
(Linda); sister-in-law, Judie Leach-Bennett; nieces and nephews,
Andrea Bennett (Chris), Dawson Bennett, Holly Bennett, Mason Bennett,
Jaden Bennett, Ryan (Stacey) Cook, Terry (Jaclyn) Cook. And lastly but
not least, her fur babies Simba and Little.
Diane loved animals; not only her own pets but the menagerie
of animals her children and grandchild (Rebecca in particular) kept
bringing home to her. Zachary, Hunter, Nicholas, Molly, Domino, Rosie,
and Marty will most certainly all be waiting for her on the other side
of the rainbow bridge.
Diane was a giver. Whether to her family, friends or the
friends her children brought home, there was always a bridge game,
snacks and a place to hang out. Carting her kids and their friends
around the province for swim meets was one of her favorite pastimes
(we think…) in their younger years. Afterwards, she waited
for them to bring the action to her in her home.
Diane graduated from Mount St. Vincent with her teaching
degree but chose to stay home and raise her family. As her kids grew
up, Diane became heavily involved in her community in Truro, as a town
counsellor, member of the police board, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and
member of her children’s athletic organizations to name just
a few.
The ocean, in particular the Bay of Fundy, gave mom peace.
For years, she spent time in Economy in the summer, finding solitude
and tranquility along these shores. To here is where she will return
in death.
Our deepest thanks to the Hants Community Hospital wing 200
and Level 500 for caring for Diane for her last few months with
us.
Diane’s family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m.,
Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young
Street, Truro. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local
SPCA in Diane’s memory. Tributes, words of comfort and
memories may be shared at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
