It is with immense sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Diane Chiarelli (Rosko), age 65, of Hamilton, Ontario, who left us suddenly at home on Saturday, August 17th, 2024. She was born on January 3rd 1959 in Hamilton, Ontario. Now reuniting with her parents Paul and Joyce Rosko.
Diane was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who dedicated her life to her family. She is survived by her loving husband Joseph of 40 years. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her son, Marco [Nancy] and her grandchildren, Adelle [Shane], and Jacob [Jaliyah}, and her brother, Allan [Kim], and her extended family, friends, and community. Diane grew up on the Hamilton Mountain in what was known as “Lil Chicago”, and running in the wild fields of what are now lime ridge mall. She proudly raised her family in the North End, and finally settling in the West End.
She was an amazing mother to her son Marco and raised both of her grandchildren Adelle and Jacob. She dedicated and volunteered over 40 years of her life to the local Hamilton Community and was always Hamilton proud. Diane was a powerful community leader, advocate for social justice, and a true trailblazer. She was a voice for the people and fighter for what was right. She always believed in altruistically
helping people and fighting injustice in our community. Diane was dedicated to her community, committing over 44 years to the Christmas Run. She was honoured as a YWCA Woman of Distinction, AFW award for Excellence in Community Leadership, served on the board of the Women’s Canadian Club, and was the proud recipient of the 2024 Heritage Volunteer Recognition Award.
She fought for grandparents rights and was the founder and president of WEROCK. Actively supported Kiwanis and St. Joseph’s Healthcare, advocating for medically challenged and palliative care patients in our community and always been an advocate for the vulnerable and disadvantaged throughout the city. Successfully lobbied the Ontario Government for the TCA (Temporary Care Assistance) program. Supported Steel Workers during critical times, facilitated programs for at-risk youth and vulnerable families, and hosted fundraisers for children’s summer camps and special needs programs. She was an advocate, public speaker,
writer, trainer, community program developer. Seniors, women’s, and children’s activist.
Diane truly was a unique and unconditionally loving person. She was a mom and grandmother to anyone who was close to her and was a light in many of our lives. Diane will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on in our hearts forever.
The Celebration of her Life will be held at P.X. Dermody Funeral Home, 796 Upper Gage Ave. on Monday, August 26th. Visitation will take place at 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Service will begin at 1:00 PM. and then proceeding to Parkside Cemetery in Dundas. Wear vibrant colours and celebrate her life. Flowers are welcome, and any donations may be made to a local charity of their choosing.
