Obituary
KUKADIA, Dhirajbala ‘Ba’ – It is with immense sadness that we inform you that my mother, Dhirajbala Kukadia, (most everyone called her Ba) passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at the age of 82. My mother never had the opportunity to finish primary school but lived on four continents, was very likely the first female Indian (Gujarati) driving instructor in Toronto (how do you like that for a diversity trailblazer). She was a tremendous cook who fed people from all over the world (family, friends, and complete strangers with equal enthusiasm). She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, having given us the greatest gift that only love, and sacrifice can bring – the seeds for a life in a country where safety was normal, and opportunities were endless. Her greatest love was my dad. Harji Kukadia. She married him as a teenager, through the practice of arranged marriage – and in doing so, they began a life together, that turned into an epic and tragic love story, with my father passing away 30 years ago. We are grateful that her suffering from a dementia diagnosis and a deep longing for my father has now ended. She is survived by a family that will miss her greatly, comprised of 7 great-grandchildren, 8 grandchildren, 2 daughters-in-law, 2 sons-in-law and 4 children. Donations may be made in her honour, directly at any of the following places; Alzheimer’s Society London – this wonderful organization provided much support and education to my mother and our family, or, Niagara SPCA – we all believe that she secretly loved the many dogs we had, taking pleasure in slipping them a treat, while telling us all that she didn’t like them.
