Devine Umpherville Obituary
Devine Umpherville was born September 26, 2005, to her loving parents: dad Kendall C. Whitecap and mom Andrea Whitecap at Nipawin Union Hospital. She passed away on December 31, 2023, at her residence in Red Earth Cree Nation.
Devine was one of a kind. She loved to bake, draw and paint. She also loved to sew and create new outfits for herself. When she was 10 years old, she created a costume for herself to wear on Halloween and the theme was Harley Quinn. Her cousin Wilson nicknamed her “nine” because he couldn’t pronounce her name, so her family and friends start calling her “Deniner”. Devine loved to be around family too. She had a lot of respect for her family and other people she met. She also had special names for some of her family like her baby sister Priyann who she called “Babbas and Bubs”. She also worked at the Band office with Precious and Erin as summer student employment.
Devine went to school in Red Earth from Nursery to Grade 9. She went on to further her education to complete grade 10 and 11 in Nipawin LPM High School. During her education in Nipawin, her supporters were her aunties Rose and Mallory to complete her grade 10 and 11. She moved back to Red Earth as she planned complete her grade 12. With this achievement she graduated on June 29, 2023, at John William Memorial Education Centre. During her school years she made many friends but her best friends she hung out with were Denver McKay, Emily McKay, Precious Head, Amanda Young, Quinitra Head and Chaniqua Head. She also had a close bond with her cousin McKayla. She loved to go around and do things with her friends. She also applied to University of Saskatchewan and got accepted and was supposed to start in January 2024, majoring in Arts and Science. She was taking a big step to further her education and she would have been committed and achieved her choice of education with the support of her family and friends.
