Derrick James Campbell
September 3, 1965- December 23, 2023
Derrick, son of Donna Nauss (Campbell) and the late Doug Campbell, of Annapolis Royal, passed away on the morning of December 23, 2023 after a long battle with diabetes and kidney failure.
Derrick moved around a lot with his family as a child, making homes in a variety of towns, before finally settling in Annapolis Royal to work in the family business. He was a jack of all trades, working plenty of different jobs throughout his lifetime, before going back to school and training to become a continuing care assistant. He enjoyed helping others with VON for many years until his illness no longer allowed it. Throughout the nice weather Derrick could often be found driving down the road with the roof down in whatever convertible he had at the moment, with the music up loud, most likely singing or playing the air drums. In the colder months, as an avid sports fan, he could often be found watching the Montreal Canadiens, New England Patriots, the latest highlights reel, or when Cole was younger, the Bridgetown Hawks. On Friday nights the family could be found sharing a meal and having a game night. Derrick had a passion for cars, spending many a day travelling to get his next vehicle or searching online to find something that he hadn’t yet owned, a passion that he passed on to his son. They often spent days together driving around the province for the next deal. Derrick also enjoyed traveling with his family, when he wasn’t spoiling them at home.
He leaves behind his loving wife Sandi, his two children of whom he was most proud, Courtney (Ben) Taylor, Cole Campbell, one grandchild Terry Taylor, sister Kim, brother Mark, and nephew and nieces.
A special thank you goes out to Dr. Ken Buchholz, who has been there for the family for a long time (going above and beyond), and to the First Responders who were so incredible the morning of his passing.
A visitation will be held at Kaulbach Family Funeral Home in Annapolis Royal at 1pm on December 29th, immediately following will be a Celebration of Life at 2pm officiated by Collin McMahon. Following the service there will be a private family burial. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Annapolis Royal Volunteer Fire Department (of which Derrick was once a member) or Diabetes Canada.
