It is with great sadness and broken hearts that the family of Derek Nathan Stone announce his passing at the Foothills Medical Centre, Calgary, AB on July 31, 2024, two days short of his 48th birthday.
Born in Fredericton, New Brunswick on August 2, 1976; he was the son, Sherman Stone and Debbie Vey.
Derek graduated from Stanley High School in 1995. He would spend the greater part of his working career behind the wheel of a transport truck. He loved his time spent on the road but hated being away from his family.
On May 14, 2011 he would marry the love of his life, Simone Smith and together they would build a life filled with love and laughter.
He had a passion for hockey and Nascar and was always a loyal fan. He never met a helmet he didn’t like, which came in handy a time or two whe he was thirsty. He was also the king of any dance floor: especially if the cha cha slide came on.
But his never ending, never wavering passion was the one he had for his family. The sun rose and set on his family, always wanting to share stories and updates with all of his friends.
Derek had a heart of gold, a true give the shirt off his back friend. He would give his last dime to someone in need and always went above and beyond for those he loved. He loved without question, without hesitation and to be loved by him was an honor in itself.
He loved to laugh, whether it was telling jokes or stories, doing impressions or just saying or doing anything to make someone else smile, even at his own expense. You never knew what was going to come out of his mouth.
He never thought highly of himself or thought he was anything special but anyone loved by him knew better. The world is a sadder place without his smile.
In the grand tapestry of life, some threads are so vibrant, so integral that their absence leaves a noticeable void. Derek was not just a thread, but a brilliant, iridescent streak of light that touched and brightened every life it intersected.
His love and memory will live on in the hearts of his soulmate, Simone; his children: Kaylee Hawkes and her husband Luke, Ty Stone, Jasmine Smith-Stone and Cheyanne Stone; his parents: Sherman Stone and Debbie Vey; his brother, Dustin Stone and his wife Chrissy; his sister, Kara Stone; his grandson, Barrett Hawkes; his nephews: Trey, Brayden and Lucas; his maternal grandmother, Teena Vey; his aunts and uncles: Bobby and Lori Vey, Kelle and Maurice McGinnis, Kathy and Danny Hodgins, Marilyn and Don Landry, and Linda and Murray Haines; his mother-in-law, Melissa Smith; as well as several cousins and extended family members.
He is predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Bruce Vey; his paternal grandparents: Myles and Della Stone;his stepfather, Fred Smale and by his father-in-law, Al Smith.
