Denis passed away peacefully at home, with dignity, along with his loving wife and surrounded by loved ones.
Denis was a graphic artist by trade. A graduate from the Toronto School of Art. His career started off in Owen Sound then brought him back to his hometown of Ottawa. Prior to moving, he met his wife Leona on a blind date. They married in 1959 and true to his artistic flair, he designed his brides’ wedding gown (to best show off his beautiful wife to be). They started their family soon thereafter.
Denis was a natural when it came to sports. Always eager to play and competitive in nature. He loved hockey, baseball, football, badminton, curling, swimming and golf. In his younger days he coached hockey and baseball to youths in the neighbourhood.
Many fun and fond family memories of camping and being at the cottage playing cards, Saturday morning fishing, canoeing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing and even horseback riding.
His other passion was painting. His works of art adorn all of our homes. These works will console and remind us of him always. Some of his works were exhibited at many art shows and even City Hall. Later during his retirement he also instructed Art classes in Florida.
Denis and Lee spent many years traveling to the Caribbean, Africa, Europe and even Russia for the 1972 Canadian Russian hockey games and spent much of their retirement in Florida.
He loved his KitKat bars…and well chocolate and sweets in general and chip wagon fries & hot dogs.
Despite his failing health, he always maintained his sense of humor.
Our family would like to extend our deepest thanks to RN Sara Olivier, Dr. Mary Johnston, Dr. Nick Costain, Dr. Allison Bell, PSW extraordinaire Bimal, Hatim, Katie and the rest of the staff at Rexall Manotick Pharmacy as well as all the other compassionate medical staff, including his family physician, The Ottawa Retina Centre, all support workers and paramedics who provided exceptional care for Denis. Thank you also to our wonderful friends – Dianne & Lorne, Helen, Gerry & Heather – not to mention many others as well as family who spent time with him these last few weeks.
Rest now so you can be at peace. You need not have to worry anymore we have you to guide us. We miss you and love you
LIKEWISE.
