Denis Joseph George Larocque
Passed away suddenly with wife by his side at his retirement home in Kemptville, Ontario on January 23, 2023. Denis, in his 84th year, was a beloved husband and best friend of Solange for 60 years. Loving father of Jacqueline MacKinnon (Jason Hutson), Marc (Rhuby Ramos), and Alain (Louise Vachon). Special Grandpapa to Andrew, David and Nicole. Great-Grandpapa to Ayden and the late Paisley. Dear brother of Simon, Céline , Jean-Marie, and Michel, and the late Gabriel, Marie-Paule, Yvon, Fernand, Marius, André , Armand and Louise. Dear brother-in-law to Bernard, Marcel, Ivan and the late Pierre. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Born the son of Raphael Larocque and Marie-Blanche Tomassin in St. Pasqual, Quebec, Denis worked as a plumber apprentice between 1954-1956 in Beauport, Quebec until he followed his oldest brother Gabriel to Hamilton, Ontario to start an apprenticeship as an Insulator and Asbestos worker as a member of Local 95 in 1956, being the 2nd Larocque insulator in Hamilton out of the future dozens extended family members that would follow. He worked hard and proudly through Local 95 as a Jouneyman, Forman, Superintendent and briefly as the Owner (SureSave Insulation 1976-1982) for 49 years until his retirement in 2005. Denis was also an active member of la Paroisse Notre Dame in Hamilton in the 1960’s and 70’s, helped found le Centre Français as a member of le Richelieu.
Denis enjoyed horse racing, was a Gardening Guru, was the Ultimate Handyman, and absolutely loved playing cards and was a pro at counting and reading people during card games! Denis was truly an Original Soul, as anyone who met him can attest to, and had a gift to be able to light up the mood in a room with his sense of humour and sinister laugh! Known as Mon Oncle Denis to dozens and Grandpapa Denis to a few. He will never be forgotten and will be truly missed.
A Celebration of Denis’s Life will be held at the Kemptville Chapel Reception Centre of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 805 Prescott Street, Kemptville, Ontario on Saturday April 29, 2023 from 1 pm to 4 pm.
