Delia Reyes Bannister
Aug. 4, 1940- Aug. 20, 2023
Delia Reyes Bannister our sister, Tita, Ninang, friend and a loving wife of John went home to Jesus on Aug. 20 2023. She left this world peacefully with prayers in her heart and faith in the Lord, surrounded by love and her family.
Delia was the 5th of 9 children born to Leoncio Reyes and Dionisia de Villa on August 4, 1940 in San Pablo Laguna, Philippines, a land of rich natural beauty and cultural diversity. Del proudly carried this sense of ethnic inclusiveness throughout her life. She treated and saw each person, no matter what country they come from as a unique person deserving of love, care and attention. Her positive multicultural attitude and her compassionate care made her a role model in several medical centres where she worked namely from Paterson Hospital New Jersey, United States to St. Joseph Hospital Laboratory Thunder Bay where she was employed for 37 years, and most recently at the Surgical Unit, Thunder Bay Regional Health Center as a volunteer after she retired. She was a well sought person in every occupation she involved herself in because of her diversity, organizational skills, beautiful character and caring spirit. Del married John Bannister later in life, to her, worth the wait meant meeting the right person. John’s response of devotion and caring never wavered, being by her side every moment until her passing.
Del was predeceased by her parents Leoncio and Dionisia, brothers Dr. Nick Reyes and Luben Reyes, brother-in-law Dr. Emil Umali and Tony Rono. And sister in law Carmen Reyes.
Del is survived by husband John, sisters Linda Umali , Luz Rono, Amelia, ( Nony )Atienza, Leila ( George) Fontana, brothers Leoncio (Nancy) Reyes and Jovi ( Beng) Reyes, sister-in-law Jean Reyes and numerous nieces and nephews from the Phil, U.S. and Canada.
Del’s family are forever grateful to family and friends near and far who showed their love and support by consistently delivering delicious food, beautiful flowers, kind and loving sentiments and prayers through phone calls, emails, and messages. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Thank you to Rev. Father Rey Ronquilo for his calming prayers and presence providing Del and us spiritual strength and guidance during the difficult time. We are grateful to our medical caregivers Caroline, Maegan and Nancy for helping us navigate the challenging journey.
