Obituary
Mitchell, Dawn Louise – 82 of Barrington Passage. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother. Dawn passed away peacefully in the early morning on Friday August 2, 2024, at Bayside Home surrounded by her loving family. Dawn was born in East Port Midway on December 10, 1941, to Elva Cross (Cohoon) and Harry Cross. She was raised in Liverpool, NS.
In the early 80’s Dawn started her career at Wilson’s Home Hardware where she dedicated 33 years. Dawn loved her work family where she built many long-lasting friendships that she cherished with all her heart.
Dawn dedicated many hours volunteering her time with the Island & Barrington Passage Fire Department and former Barrington Passage Volunteer Fire Department as the dispatcher as well as part of the ladies auxiliary. She was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and Barrington Area Lionettes. Dawn was a very active member of her community, always lending a helping hand and helping those in need.
Dawn was a loving mother and grandmother to her four children, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Dawn loved her family and friends, and her door was always open to everyone. Dawn loved large gatherings, bringing family and friends together enjoying meals and laughter for every special occasion. Dawn really enjoyed back yard BBQ’s and bonfires in the summer with family, creating lasting memories for her children and grandchildren.
Dawn loved the outdoors, camping, the beach and taking road trips. Her hobbies included bowling with her mixed and ladies league teams and darts. Her biggest passion in life was gardening. She always had the most beautiful flowers and during her time at Bayside Home she was always eager to help with the gardens. When Dawn was not outside at Bayside Home you could find her sitting by the window enjoying the sunshine and admiring the flowers and wildlife.
Dawn was greatly loved and will be missed by her family and friends. Survived by sons Greg (Melissa) Mitchell, Blair (Laura) Mitchell, daughters Nicole (Brian) Mitchell and Amanda (Jason) Mitchell. Five grandchildren Kerstin, Michelle, Melody, Cassidy, and Hayden; three great grandchildren Roman, Kane and Crue. Sadly, she will miss getting to meet her soon-to-be-born great granddaughter of granddaughter Cassidy. Dawn will also be missed by her brother Glenn (Judy) Cross and sister Eleanor Cluett (Cross) as well as longtime friend and coworker Jimmie Newell. Predeceased by parents Harry & Elva Cross, grandson Scott Mitchell, niece Karla Colp (Weagle) and daughter in law Vanessa Mitchell (Wilson).
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Bayside Home for the amazing care over the past 8 years where mom spent her final years. Dawn was an extremely social person and was always up to taking part in every activity and function that was going on. She loved going out on the many day trips and could be found in the middle of almost every activity going on inside and outside at Bayside Home. The busier she was the bigger her smile.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date and will be announced beforehand. Memorial donations in her name may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, Island & Barrington Passage Fire Department, Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 148), Barrington Area Lions Club or charity of choice.
