Harold “David” Weir has left the building. A long-time member of the Porter’s Lake community, he passed on July 18th, 2024 at the age of 77.
David was the beloved partner of Marilyn Richardson. He was a brilliant comic raconteur, a sportsman devoted to the art of fly fishing, a skilled carpenter whose deep love of puzzles helped turn him into a MacGyvering whiz. A boatsman, teacher, reformed alcoholic, actor, and musician, he was a fanatical fan of George Jones and a fixture on the Maritimes music scene. Dave’s lyrical bass-playing drove the sounds of groups as diverse as The Burger Brothers Band, Miller’s Jug, The Carnations, and Ginger’s regulars The Hollis Street Hoofers. He was a tireless promoter of the songs of Al Macdonald, an early supporter and sound man for Rita MacNeil, an occasional road manager for Denny Doherty, and regularly sang some of the most maudlin songs ever recorded by Hank Snow.
Mr. Weir is survived by his first wife Rosemary Gilbert, his life partner Marilyn, and a myriad of people who knew him as a kind and generous man. He was a true friend, and we will not stop loving him today.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
