Lemon, David (1956-2023)
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of David Bruce Lemon, 66 of Sudbury. David passed away peacefully at his home on February 8th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. David is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce (Snyder), children Aedon (Jamee), Grant (Gabrielle), Jay and Amy, grandchildren Halle and Madeleine. He is also survived by his brothers Robert (Franco), Paul (Joan) and sister-in-law Chris. David is predeceased by his parents and his older brother, Peter. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews.
David was born in St. Thomas, Ontario in 1956 to Robert and Norma (Miller) Lemon. He was graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Science. He was a proud member of the 1977-78 Men’s Volleyball team, who won the OUA Championship and were inducted into the Gryphon Sports Hall of Fame in 2018. David was passionate about his work as an environmental consultant which allowed him many adventures travelling the world. In retirement, David spent much of his free time birding, tinkering with his 1969 Ford Bronco, fishing or swimming in Lake Nepahwin. He was a gifted storyteller with a great sense of humor and we loved listening to his tales, no matter how many times he told them and regardless of which version.
David was always eager to share his love for birds and birding with anyone who was willing to listen. He was a regular fixture on the Laurentian trails with his pipe, plaid jacket, and binoculars, checking on the migrating and nesting birds in the area. David was a true family man. He was so very proud of his children and grandchildren and treasured every precious minute he spent with them. David loved to gather family and friends for his famous waffle breakfasts. “If you want something else, go somewhere else,” he would joke. David also took pride in being a blood, platelet, and plasma donor with more than 250 donations to his name.
We are grateful to the doctors at the University Health Network in Toronto and Health Sciences North in Sudbury. A special thank you goes out to Dr. Crichton and Dr. Dumais as well as to the many, many nurses and other health care professionals in both locations.
At David’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations for cancer research (eg. Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society) as it benefits many and is appreciated by even more. If you don’t have cancer, chances are you know someone who does.
