It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Darryl Rubin, this past Shabbat at the age of eighty-four. Beloved father and father-in-law of Rabbi Adam Rubin and Judith Schleyer of the Shaare Zion Beth-El Congregation, Dan Rubin, and Matt Rubin. Cherished brother of Gary, Rob, and Larry Rubin. Adored “Daboo” (grandfather) of Elior, Na’amah, Zoey and Clara.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1939, Darryl moved with his entire extended family to Long Beach, California when he was a boy, and he spent the rest of his life in Southern California. The first in his family to attend college and graduate school, he became a pharmacist and eventually owned a small pharmacy in a medical building. He was fun and fun-loving, and had many passions; skilled with his hands, Darryl was a talented painter, photographer and maker of stained glass windows. He loved to golf, fish, attend classic car shows, and follow his beloved L.A. Lakers and USC Trojans. Darryl Rubin of blessed memory will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
The funeral will take place in Long Beach, California. Rabbi Rubin and his family will be sitting shiva in Montreal; more details will be posted as soon as the funeral date is determined.
