Darren Charles Driver, born on June 11, 1968, in Winnipeg, MB, passed away on his birthday, June 11, 2024, in Nanaimo, BC. He was the beloved son of Charles Duane Driver and Rosalind Cam Botterill.
Darren’s journey on this earth was filled with accomplishments and cherished moments. He graduated from NDSS in Nanaimo in 1986 and later completed the Carpentry Program at Malaspina College. His passion for carpentry was evident in his work as a talented craftsman, where building inspectors and developers sought out his expertise to bring their visions to life.
In his professional career, Darren worked at Overwaitea Foods from 1985 to 1991 before venturing into self-employment as a carpenter, a path he diligently followed until his passing. His dedication to his craft and the quality of his work left a lasting impact on those around him. Outside of work, Darren found joy in various hobbies and interests. He was a sports enthusiast, having played soccer, hockey, and squash at different stages of his life. His love for hockey never waned, and he could often be found cheering on both Junior and NHL teams. Darren also had a sense of adventure, embarking on backpacking trips through Europe, living and working in Japan, and even experiencing a world cruise that took him to 12 countries in 2019.
Darren is survived by his brother, Daniel Dean Driver, and Daniel’s children, Deni and Danielle. He is also survived by his stepfather, Wally Funk, and Wally’s children, Kim, Tammy, and Murray. Additionally, Darren is survived by his special friend, Kathy Bennett, and her children, Dallas and Drew.
His warm presence and caring nature will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In the midst of sorrow, there is solace in knowing that Darren is now reunited with his parents, Charles Duane Driver and Rosalind Cam Botterill, who preceded him in death. Together, they watch over those who hold them dear.
A private funeral service will be held to honor Darren’s life. In lieu of flowers, Darren’s wishes were for donations to be made to non-profit organizations that support mental health in your community. It is a fitting tribute to a man who valued compassion and understanding for those facing mental health challenges.
To Wally Funk and Kathy Bennett, special thanks are extended for their support and efforts in organizing Darren’s affairs after his passing. Their kindness and dedication have been a source of comfort during this difficult time. Darren Charles Driver leaves behind a legacy of craftsmanship, adventure, and kindness. May his memory continue to inspire those who knew him, and may his spirit find eternal peace.
