November 18 1929 – June 25 résidant dans la province T-N pour le détail des funérailles
Passed peacefully away, in the presence of his family on June 25, 2024, at Dr. G B Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville. Born in Red Cliffe, Bonavista Bay on November 18, 1929 he was not expected to live through the night but defied the odds on that night and for the next 94 years. Darrell leaves to mourn Lorraine, his loving wife of almost 64 years, their children Darlene (Jerry Ricketts), David (Josephine), Carol (Herb Edwards), grandchildren Krista (Gabriel Brodeur), Justin (Whitney), Evan Myles (Alison Poynter) and Leah Myles (Adam Novak); great grandchildren Maya, Madeleine and Katherine Brodeur. Due to a unique set of circumstances whereby Darrell fell in love with his older brother’s step daughter he is also leaving to mourn nephews/brothers-in-law Claude (Marjorie), Edmund-deceased (Cecelia), Marlon (Bernice) and nieces/sisters-in-law Judy (Eric Tucker) and Gloria (John Barker) and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is predeceased by all his siblings and son-in-law Harvey Myles.
Darrell was most at home in the presence of nature, while fishing, gardening and hunting. In keeping with his strong work ethic he was a part time Fisherman and also worked away for almost six months of each year. He visited almost every community in the Eastern Artic during his 40 plus years there. He had a fierce unconditional love for family and nursed his own father through a long illness, for several years. He was always immediately there for his own children through all of their joys and sorrows.
Many thanks to all the staff at the Clarenville Retirement Centre and the Dr. G B Cross Memorial Hospital for their care, kindness and compassion.
Visitation will take place at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Clarenville on Monday, July 1, 2024 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial Service 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Clarenville with interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Red Cliffe.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Anglican Church, Red Cliffe, Sammys Climb Higher Foundation or Operation Smile Canada.
