Darlene Barbara Brassard, beloved companion of Peter Lord, passed away peacefully at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Center in Lethbridge, Alberta, on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the age of 72 years.
She is survived by her children Trevor (Kim) Brassard, Tammy (Glen) Sawa, and Tanya (Jason) Hueppelsheuser; her five granddaughters Tylar, Isabella, Shaelee, Shelby, and Paige; her stepdaughters Melanie (Craig) Taylor and Laura (Scott) Cathers with their families; and her sisters Denise Gordon and Sharon Papp and numerous nieces and nephews.
Darlene grew up in Cluny, Alberta. She was the third daughter of Charles and Delia Beaudin. She married Albert Brassard in 1970, to whom she was married for 37 years. Together they had Trevor and twin girls, Tammy, and Tanya. After living a time in Lethbridge, they resided in Picture Butte, AB, where they raised their family. In 2009, Darlene met her companion Peter Lord, with whom she shared her life until her passing. Together they travelled and enjoyed going to the Lethbridge Legion.
Many memories will comfort us in the days to come. The best memories were around the kitchen table. Darlene was a good cook; she showed her love through cooking and baking for her kids and grandkids. Rarely did you leave Mom’s house without her treats. Also around that table, came many card games, mahjong, and board games, all of which were accompanied by competitive banter and laughter.
Family was the focus of Darlene’s life. Darlene loved to take her grandchildren on walks to the lake, to play at the park, and to the Frosty Dip for ice cream. It was almost daily during the summers. We were fortunate to have her babysit while we worked, this always included coming home to a clean house, laundry on the go, and supper cooking on the stove.
Darlene was a very caring lady with a good sense of humor. She was spiritual and modeled faithfulness and service. It is these values she passed on to her family. She taught her children to handle life’s struggles with prayer and would be known to say “It’ll all come out in the wash”. She will be forever missed and loved.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Chinook Regional Hospital, Units 4A and 4C, St. Michael’s Palliative Care Unit, and the Lethbridge Homecare teams for their compassionate care.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Christensen Salmon Generations Funeral Home, 703 13 St N, in Lethbridge, Alberta, with Pastor Al Litchfield officiating.
