Daniel
James McMillan
June 13
1937- April 1 2023
It is with
deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of
Danny McMillan. Born in Springhill, to
his loving parents Etta and Doug. Dan loved his
community.
Dan was a businessman
at heart. He and Joyce, brains and braun, moved back to Springhill in
1975, after living and working for many years in Massachusetts.
Together, they started a small grocery business that flourished and
eventually became the current Home Hardware in Springhill. He spent a
life time building the business and the capacity to offer this service
to the community. This allowed him to give back. He was a generous
soul who supported many organizations, groups, and individuals over
the years and never expected any accolades in return. We will never
know the full extent of his generosity.
Dan worked hard
everyday to provide a wonderful life for the love of his life, Joyce,
and their five boys. Family meant everything to Dan, and he passed
along his lessons of the importance of hard work, generosity, and
family to his sons, and grandchildren.
Danny was an amazing
father, and his sons carry on that legacy by being amazing fathers to
their own children. Danny was extremely dedicated to his religion.
Joyce and Dan were heavily involved members of Baptist Church in
Springhill, even participating in the choir.
Dan was a bigger than
life figure, he was passionate about many things, but especially
hockey. He supported Minor Hockey in Cumberland County for many years
on many levels both as a sponsor and an enthusiast fan. Many will
recall Dan’s presence at arenas all over the province. He
also loved baseball and his Blue Jays. He and Joyce spent many hours
watching games and betting toonies. He loved a good washer
tournament.
Nothing pleased him
more than spending time at his beloved cottage with his family, at our
special place, Cameron Beach. The beach was his legacy, a place he
will never be forgotten.
Dan is predeceased by
his parents. He will be deeply missed and always fondly remembered by
his family. Sons, Michael (Fran), Mark (Lynn), Tim (Jenny), Jamie
(Lori) and John (Samantha); his grandchildren, Billy (Amy), Kate
(Mitch), Tyler, Jessica (Cody), Emily (John), Reilly, Lauren, Jayme
(John), Evan, Shaye, Alex and Rowan;d great grandchildren, Avery,
Noah, Brea, Bowen, Chloe, Blakely, Hudson and a great granddaughter
due in August. Dan will also be missed by honorary family members and
friends, from Springhill to Boston to Hawaii, and everywhere in
between. Danny’s memory will live on through the stories and memories
of those who loved him, we will love and miss him
forever.
Dan’s family would
like to extend a huge thank you to the staff of All Saints Springhill
Hospital for taking such wonderful care of him during his
stay.
