Daniel Chellew Obituary
Dan passed away peacefully after a short stint in the Campbell River Hospital with family by his side at the age of 91 on September 17, 2024.
He was born #9 of 17 children in Sturgeon Falls, ON.
Dan was predeceased by his wife Irene – the love of his life whom he missed tremendously. Also predeceased by Parents Alvin & Verea, Siblings Mina (Henry), Bill (Joyce), Kay, Helen (John), Evan (Jeanette), Alvin, Eric, Ivan (Bev), Richard (Della), Peter (Carol), Ida Mae, Brian (Sandra), Roger (Val)
Dan worked hard all his life and lived a very full life. Nothing could slow him down. He lived independently and was so strong right to the end.
He worked on the family farm, Abitibi Pulp Mill, RCAF, Canfor, Bear Lake Logging, Jesse Homes, Dan’s Backhoe and Interfor. He said, “Logging was never a job but a hobby”. He shared many logging stories.
Dan loved being with family and friends. He was always happy to look after his grandchildren and grand dogs. He was proud of his family.
He was an amazing cook, baker and made the best baked beans. He cooked many colossal sized family dinners, no one left hungry. Food was how he showed love and he sure did have a lot of that to give.
Dan loved working with his hands, gardening, fishing, camping, logging, looking for deals at garage sales, along with digging up beach glass.
Dan is survived by his 2 children, Lori Courtney, Debbie (Rick) Jager, his grandchildren Cody & Shawnee Courtney, Dakota & Kimberly Jager, great grandchildren Mia and Erica Courtney, siblings Paul (Deloris), Colin (Betty), Ross (Marilyn).
The family would like to have a special mention to Don Courtney (Dad loved you like a son) and also to his special friend Pamela Hedderson.
We also wish to extend our thanks to the wonderful nurses, LPN Joe and doctors.
