Dane’s Obituary
It is with heavy hearts but warm memories that we announce the passing of our cherished Dane McDowell (Cherwinski) on Saturday, November 16, 2024, in his 65th year. Dane was born to his beloved mother Hazel Naylor (MacLeod) on August 19th, 1959, in Timmins, Ontario. Shortly after Hazel moved her young family; they settled in Hamilton, Ontario.
Beloved husband and best friend of Christie McDowell, they met in 2001 and married in 2005, sharing 19 years of marriage and 2 children together. Dane is the much adored Dad, father and ‘Padre’ to his 4 wonderful children, Neve, Ethan, Ashley (Matthew) Hughes and Ciara (Vincas) Gudinskas.
His children were his world, he loved them deeply, cherishing the times he spent bike riding, on nature walks, golfing, backyard badminton, kayaking, evening fires, star gazing, swimming, making homemade pizza every Friday night, get togethers and leisurely days enjoyed in the backyard.
Dane, the youngest of 3 children is survived by his sister Wendy (Richard) Sawa and his brother Robert Cherwinski. He is pre-deceased by his father Edward Cherwinski, step father Leonard Naylor and mother-in-law Angela McDowell. He will be greatly missed by his niece Devon, aunts, cousins, father-in-law, brother-in-law, son-in-laws, clients, colleagues, and many, many friends.
Dane loved nothing more than his family, whether it was playing crib with his Mom, football games with his brother, or laughing with his sister. He loved the beach, coconuts and the sand between his toes.
For years he made us all laugh, ‘tsk’ and shake our heads in amusement and sometimes horror at the stories of his youthful Hamilton adventures and antics with his raving pack of friends. Including many classics from his flooring installation days with close friend Rob. Such stories were always told with great enthusiasm and animation.
Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Dane knows what a truly rare and unique person he was, there are no words big, or eloquent enough to capture the essence of such a special person. He had the ability and gift to reach people and bring smiles to the grumpiest of faces, or light to those on their darkest day.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Dwayne D. Budgell Funeral Home. In accordance with Dane’ wishes, cremation has already taken place. A time and place for Visitation and a Celebration of Life will be announced in the coming days. Donations to the Innisfree House (lisaardandinnisfree.com/donate/) or a charity of your choice in Dane’s memory would be appreciated by the family.
